Pallavi Through Abstractions, CHOWK’s first dance on film sheds an exclusive perspective into the unique choreography developed through The Pallavi Series (2016-2018). This final abstraction comes stripped down to its bare minimum, distilling only the elements of this unique idiom of Asian Contemporary Dance developed by choreographer Raka Maitra.
Through the lens of space, time, and stillness, choreographer Raka Maitra distils the elements of classical Odissi; finding abstraction towards a unique idiom of contemporary dance. Made in collaboration with filmmaker Ler Jiyuan, this work unveils in close proximity the fluid nuances of the dancers’ torsos, the resonant stamping of feet, and the subtle shifts of their gaze.
