One Part Woman is a dance-theatre production by Chowk Productions, adapted from Perumal Murugan’s internationally acclaimed Tamil novel Madhorubagan. The work reimagines the novel’s emotional landscape, where love, identity and societal expectations collide.

Set against the charged atmosphere of a temple chariot festival, the production captures a moment where norms collapse and characters enter a liminal, transformative space. Choreographer Raka Maitra and director Lakshmana K P craft a sensory world in which ritual, rhythm and storytelling converge, revealing the body as the site where truth, desire and divinity intersect.

One Part Woman is an artistic homage to Tamil cultural heritage, its languages, rituals, colours and embodied traditions, refracted through the elegance of the Odissi form. This is a rare opportunity to witness a contemporary performance rooted deeply in literary richness, folk expression and the timeless search for love.

There will be a post-show dialogue with Perumal Murugan, Raka Maitra and Lakshmana K P after the performances.
