Odissi

Odissi training at Chowk includes building the basic form of the dance followed by learning a repertoire created by the late guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, a pioneer of Odissi's reconstruction.

The training progresses in three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The primary instructor is Chowk's Artistic Director, Raka Maitra, while select advanced level students also support instruction.

Movement and Body Conditioning classes target to improve and build on core strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, movement coordination, balance and good posture. This class is curated for both newbies and adults with any fitness level.


Rhythm & Movement (Kids)

CHOWK’s Rhythm & Movement class is open for children aged between 3-10 years. The class strikes a balance between discipline and fun through a series of isolation exercises. Movement exercises are drawn from the traditional Indian dance of Odissi as well as postures from Hatha yoga. Through the course of lessons, children will develop overall body awareness, strength, balance and co-ordination in movement. The class will gradually lead into rhythmic movement and Odissi training. No prior dance experience is required.
